Anthem sits on both sides of I-17 at the far north edge of the Valley. Two exits serve it: Anthem Way (exit 229) and Daisy Mountain Drive (exit 227), which serves the southern half. Most of Anthem is unincorporated Maricopa County, while the part west of I-17 is inside Phoenix city limits, so city services depend on which side a home is on. Downtown Phoenix is about 30 miles south, and Loop 303 meets I-17 a few exits south of Anthem, which connects you to the West Valley.
Del Webb, which became part of Pulte, built Anthem starting in 1998 and opened it in 1999. Most homes are single-family, built from 1999 through the 2000s, with a wide range of sizes from smaller one-story plans to larger two-story homes. Anthem Parkside is the non-gated side of the community. Anthem Country Club is gated and sits on the slopes of Daisy Mountain around two golf courses. The Country Club is not age-restricted. Since initial building wrapped up around 2008, nearly every home here is a resale.
Anthem Community Park is the center of a lot of activity, with ball fields, lakes, the Big Splash water feature, the Daisy Mountain Railroad, a skate park, an amphitheater and the Anthem Veterans Memorial. The memorial, dedicated in 2011, has five white pillars, and on Veterans Day the sun lights the Great Seal at 11:11 a.m. The Anthem Community Center has 14 outdoor courts set aside for pickleball. Opportunity Way Park adds more sports fields.
Anthem lists about 15 miles of trails, and the hike up Daisy Mountain takes about an hour. Anthem Golf & Country Club has two 18-hole courses, Persimmon and Ironwood, and is a private membership club. For shopping, Outlets North Phoenix (formerly Outlets at Anthem) is at I-17 and Anthem Way, and Anthem Marketplace on Anthem Way has groceries and services.
Anthem is in the Deer Valley Unified School District. District schools that serve Anthem include Anthem School, Canyon Springs STEM Academy, Diamond Canyon School, Gavilan Peak School, New River Elementary and Boulder Creek High School. Charter options nearby include Caurus Academy and Great Hearts Anthem. Boundaries can change, so confirm the assigned schools for any address with Deer Valley Unified before you buy.
Anthem has a layered setup. The Anthem Community Council is a nonprofit civic league that owns and maintains the shared amenities like the community center and community park. Homes also belong to one of the community associations: Anthem Parkside, Anthem Country Club or The Village. Golf club membership is separate. Dues and rules depend on the section, so read the HOA documents before you write an offer.
The TSMC semiconductor campus is off I-17 near Loop 303, a short drive south of Anthem, and it has brought a lot of new jobs and road work to north Phoenix. An I-17 and Loop 303 interchange project has been fast-tracked for that traffic. Daisy Mountain Fire & Medical, formed in 1989, covers the county side of Anthem, and the City of Phoenix covers the west side.
The big choice is Parkside or Country Club, since gates, golf access, views and HOA layers differ. After that, it comes down to floor plan, lot and updates. I compare sales inside the same section. Some sellers have assumable loans worth asking about. If you are new to Arizona, read my first steps guide.
