About the school

Chaparral offers standard, honors and Advanced Placement classes, and students who complete AP Seminar and AP Research can earn AP Capstone recognition. The school also lists dual enrollment for college credit. Career and technical education courses include culinary arts, nursing, engineering, business, sports medicine, digital photography, digital media and technical theater, and some lead to industry certifications. Students can also apply to spend half the school day at EVIT, which has more than 40 career programs.

In the arts, the school lists theater, marching band, orchestra, choir and dance, and students can work toward the State Seal of Arts Proficiency and the Seal of Biliteracy. Athletics compete in the Arizona Interscholastic Association's 5A conference, with fall sports such as football, girls flag football, swim and dive, golf and cross-country, winter basketball, soccer and wrestling, and spring baseball, softball, tennis, beach volleyball and track. The 2026-27 clubs list has about 90 clubs, including DECA, robotics, Mock Trial, Model UN, speech and debate, mountain biking and Best Buddies.

A normal day runs 7:45 a.m. to 2:20 p.m., with an optional zero hour from 6:45 a.m. On professional development early-release days, students are dismissed at 12:20 p.m. Check the school's bell schedule and the district calendar for the current year.

Attendance boundaries and enrollment

SUSD's High School Locator at schoollocator.susd.org shows the assigned high school for an address. Always confirm the boundary with the district before you buy; living near a school does not guarantee a home is assigned to it. Regular enrollment and open enrollment for the 2027-28 school year both open November 2, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. on the district's enrollment page. For regular enrollment, the district asks for proof of residency, a birth certificate and immunization records. Open enrollment depends on available space in each grade and program.

School assignments in this part of Scottsdale are changing. On October 6, 2026, the SUSD board voted 3 to 2 to close Copper Ridge School and Laguna Prep after the 2026-27 school year, according to KJZZ. District planning materials describe options that shift which high school some of those students attend, so check with SUSD for the final pathway for any address.
