Casteel sits on Power Road in the 85142 ZIP code. The mailing address says Queen Creek, but the school belongs to Chandler Unified, so check the district on every listing. Auxier Elementary, another Chandler Unified school with a Queen Creek address, is also on Power Road, a little to the north.

About the school

Chandler Unified's Governing Board named the school for Dr. Camille Casteel on January 14, 2015. She joined the district in 1971 as a first-grade teacher, became its first female principal in 1983 and its first female superintendent in 1996, and announced her retirement in December 2020. The school opened in fall 2015 and graduated its first class in 2019.

The school describes an academic focus on engineering, computer information systems technology, entrepreneurship and product design, with honors and Advanced Placement pathways. Its AP list includes AP Capstone (Seminar and Research) plus courses across science, math, computer science, English, world languages (French, German and Spanish), history and social science, and art and design. Students can also take dual enrollment classes with Chandler-Gilbert Community College.

Outside class, Casteel has a Performing Arts Center and a fine arts program with band, choir and theatre. The activities directory lists groups such as Academic Decathlon, Science Olympiad, HOSA, a film company, photo crew, a fashion company, art club and chess club, and the school competes in Arizona Interscholastic Association athletics.

The regular school day runs 7:25 a.m. to 2:14 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday run all six periods, and Wednesday and Thursday are block days with a conference period. Early dismissal days end at 11:38 a.m. (12:05 p.m. on finals days). Check the school's site for the current calendar.

Attendance boundaries and enrollment

Chandler Unified publishes interactive and PDF boundary maps. Use them, then confirm with the district for the exact address you are considering. Homes near a school are not guaranteed to be assigned to it, and boundaries can change. Parts of Queen Creek are served by Queen Creek Unified instead, so the district matters as much as the distance.

Students who live in the boundary register online with proof of residency, a birth certificate and immunization records, and the school says processing takes about 24 school business hours. Students from outside the boundary can apply through Chandler Unified open enrollment, which needs approval before registering, depends on space and other criteria, and does not include district transportation.
