Horseshoe Trails Elementary School is a Cave Creek Unified School District public school serving preschool through 5th grade. It sits at 5405 E. Pinnacle Vista Drive in the far north part of Phoenix (ZIP 85054), on the same street as Sonoran Trails Middle School, and it opened in 2005.
I'm Terry Day with DeLex Realty. Buyers searching in the Cave Creek area often start with the school, and Horseshoe Trails comes up a lot. Here is a plain-language guide to the school, how enrollment and boundaries work in Cave Creek Unified, and how to search for homes nearby.

The school's street address is in Phoenix, ZIP 85054, while its mailing address is a Cave Creek post office box, the same setup the district uses for its other schools. That surprises some families: the area is served by Cave Creek Unified even though parts of it are inside Phoenix city limits. Sonoran Trails Middle School is a short distance away on the same street. The district office is at 33016 N. 60th Street in Scottsdale.
Horseshoe Trails describes its goal as building a thinking and learning community where students and staff expect the best of themselves. Along with the core subjects, students rotate through "Encore" classes in art, music, P.E. and STEM, where older students work on coding, robotics and circuits.
The school's most distinctive program fits its name. "Stallion Strides" is an on-site horsemanship program that uses work with horses to build character, run with a local horsemanship partner. The school also lists student leadership, community involvement and technology-integrated learning, and it uses a "Stallion Strong" positive behavior program.
Outside class, the school's site lists clubs such as choir, chess, a musical, a gardening club and art enrichment, and co-ed sports including basketball, volleyball, cross country, track and field, and a before-school running club. End-of-season events bring together the district's three elementary schools at Cactus Shadows High School. The district runs "Kid's Club" before- and after-school care at its elementary schools from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and its "Creative Inquiry" gifted class serves qualifying students in grades 3 to 5. There is an active PTO.
The school day runs 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with students allowed on campus at 8:40 a.m. Every Friday is an early-release day with a 2:00 p.m. dismissal, and half days end at 12:30 p.m. The office is open 8:00 to 4:00. Check the district calendar for breaks and the current school year.
Cave Creek Unified publishes its attendance boundaries as PDF maps (K-12, K-5 and 6-12) on its boundary maps page; there is no address lookup tool, so call the district to confirm the school for a specific address. The district's 6-12 map covers Sonoran Trails Middle School and Cactus Shadows High School, its only middle and high school. Please remember that a home near a school is not guaranteed to be assigned to it, and boundaries can change.
New families register online through the district's enrollment page with a birth certificate, immunization records, proof of residency and a parent ID. For kindergarten, a child must turn 5 before September 1. Cave Creek Unified also takes open enrollment applications year-round; the school answers in writing with approved, waitlisted or rejected, and open seats depend on grade-level space, which changes each year.
The district does not name neighborhoods for each school, so I won't either. If you are house hunting in this part of the Valley, these Cave Creek area community pages are a good place to start, then confirm the school for any home with the district: Dove Valley Ranch, Tatum Ranch and Tramonto. For the bigger picture, read my Cave Creek city guide and Cave Creek Unified homes page.
The search below shows homes whose MLS listing names Horseshoe Trails as the elementary school. Listing data is not always complete, so I double-check the assignment with the district before an offer. On some homes you may be able to take over the seller's FHA or VA loan; see my assumable mortgage guide.
