That is common in this part of the Valley, where Cave Creek Unified's boundaries cross city lines. The district's history page says Sonoran Trails has been at its current campus since 2006. The school's mission is to "inspire excellence in all students and staff." From its official pages:

STEM: project-based learning, a Sci-Tech class built around SciTech Action Labs with a robotics unit, and a yearly Science Night.
World languages: Spanish and French for grades 6 to 8.
Electives: a broad set of electives, subject to availability; the school's photos show art, guitar and choir. Course guides for each year are posted on the school site.
Clubs: SEED Club, Student Council, Robotics Club, Yearbook, Drama Club and National Junior Honor Society, plus Life Skills and school trips.
Athletics: the school joined the Canyon Athletic Association for 2026-27, with baseball, cross country, girls' and boys' volleyball, cheer, softball, wrestling, girls' and boys' basketball, and track and field open to grades 6 to 8.

The day starts with a first bell at 7:35 and classes at 7:40, and ends at 2:30 Monday through Thursday. Every Friday is a 90-minute early release ending at 1:00, and half-day finals in December and May end at 11:35. Check the school's bell schedule page for the current year.

Attendance boundaries and enrollment

New students register online through the district enrollment page, with a birth certificate, immunization record, proof of residency, parent ID and a withdrawal form from the last school. Students already in the district roll forward each year. Cave Creek Unified accepts open enrollment applications year-round; families apply to the school they want, and the school replies approved, waitlisted or not approved.
