About the school

Mountainside opened in 1991 and uses the tagline "Inspire. Learn. Lead." The biggest thing to know is that it is an IB World School. Every student in grades 6 to 8 takes part in the IB Middle Years Programme, which covers years 1 to 3 of the program. Years 4 and 5 continue at Desert Mountain High School, so students who stay on that path can keep the same framework into high school.

Attendance boundaries and enrollment

SUSD assigns students to schools by home address, so the first step for any house is the district's middle school locator. Please confirm boundaries with the district. A home near Mountainside is not guaranteed to be assigned to it.

This matters more than usual right now. SUSD's Phase II school repurposing page says the approved plan closes Copper Ridge and Laguna Prep after the 2026-27 school year, and some of the boundary options it describes would assign additional neighborhoods to Mountainside for grades 6 to 8. The district says it will share specific school assignments after the Governing Board's decision, so check the locator and the district again before you buy.

For 2027-28, the school says regular and open enrollment begin November 2, 2026 at 8 a.m. Regular enrollment is for students in the school's boundary and asks for proof of residency, a birth certificate, current immunization records and online registration forms. Open enrollment is for students outside SUSD boundaries or in-district students who want a different school, and acceptance depends on grade-level and program capacity and meeting admission requirements. The school also offers optional campus tours.
