The 2026 holiday season in the East Valley starts on Thanksgiving weekend, when downtown Mesa lights its tree and the Mesa Temple Christmas Lights open. Chandler lights its Tumbleweed Tree on December 5. Below are the dates I could confirm on official city and organizer pages, plus where to recheck.

I am Terry Day, a REALTOR with DeLex Realty, and I help people buy homes in the East Valley 55+ communities. This page is a planning list for the Thanksgiving through New Year window, not a ticket office. I only list an event when I can read its 2026 date on the city or organizer page. If I could not confirm a date, I left it off. Hours, closures and weather plans can change, so check the official page the day you go.
Mesa: Merry Main Street
Merry Main Street is downtown Mesa's holiday season, hosted by the City of Mesa. Visit Mesa's event page says it kicks off on November 27, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., and runs until January 9, 2027, along Main Street and MacDonald in downtown Mesa. The official tree lighting ceremony is Friday, November 27, at 5:00 p.m. The City of Mesa calendar lists the kickoff and Christmas tree lighting that evening from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m., throughout downtown Mesa.
The event page lists a long menu of seasonal activities, including the Winter Wonderland Ice Rink at Mesa City Center, visits with Santa, the Holiday Sunset Market, festive lighting with a Christmas tree and a 12-foot menorah, Jack Frost's Food Truck Forest at Pioneer Park and a Noon Year's Eve celebration. Two side events carry 2026 dates on that page:
- Mesa Santa Express, a light rail ride with Santa: December 11 to 13, 2026
- Cookies and Cocoa with Santa: December 22, 2026
Hours vary by day and by activity. If you are going for one specific activity, open the live Merry Main Street page rather than trusting a copied list. I am not repeating ticket information here.
Mesa is home to several of the 55+ communities I work in, including Leisure World, Sunland Village, Fountain of the Sun and Encore at Eastmark. If you want to tour a Mesa home the same day as the kickoff, call me and I will schedule the showing well before the evening crowds.
Mesa Temple Christmas Lights and Nativity Exhibit
The Mesa Temple Christmas Lights page lists nightly displays from November 27 through December 30, 2026, from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m., with free admission. The lights are on the temple grounds at 101 S. LeSueur in downtown Mesa.
The same page lists the International Nativity Exhibit at the Visitors' Center, 455 E. Main Street, over the same dates. It is open nightly from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m., plus Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. It is also free.
A few practical notes from that page:
- Pets are not allowed. Service animals are permitted.
- The page mentions the city's Park and Ride lot at the northeast corner of Mesa Drive and Main Street, and a light rail stop just west of the temple.
- Special needs parking is in the lot east of the north grounds on Hobson, with attendants to help.
- Visitors' Center hours are listed two different ways on the page, so check before you plan a daytime visit.
Chandler: Tumbleweed Tree Lighting
The City of Chandler page for the Tumbleweed Tree Lighting Ceremony lists Saturday, December 5, 2026, from 4:30 to 9 p.m. in downtown Chandler, 3 S. Arizona Avenue. The Chandler for the Holidays calendar lists the Parade of Lights the same evening, December 5, 2026, from 6:45 to 8 p.m.
The tree lighting page also describes:
- Free photos at Santa's House, sponsored by the Chandler Lions Club. Santa's House closes from 6:30 to 8 p.m. while Santa is in the Parade of Lights.
- Stuff the Truck, where the Chandler Fire Department collects new, unwrapped toys at the fire engine on the east side of Arizona Avenue, north of Boston Street.
- Street closures and restrictions on Arizona Avenue, Frye Road and Chandler Boulevard, starting as early as 2 p.m.
The Chandler for the Holidays calendar lists other December 2026 dates too, including more Santa's House days on December 12, 15 and 19, Swim with Santa on December 12, and Community Nights in the Courtyard, Holiday Edition, on December 17. Some sections of that page still show last season's details, so confirm any date there before you go.
Chandler is where you will find Solera Chandler, and the unincorporated Sun Lakes area sits on Chandler's south side. With street closures that afternoon, leave extra time if you also have a showing.
Gilbert: Water Tower Holiday Lighting
Gilbert lights its Water Tower each holiday season, and the town has a Water Tower Holiday Lighting event page. When I checked in early November 2026, that page still showed the 2025 date, not a 2026 date. I am not guessing at this year's night. Watch the Town of Gilbert page for the 2026 announcement before you plan around it.
If you are touring Gilbert homes this season, such as Trilogy at Power Ranch, call 602-483-4665 and I can line up showings once the town posts its date.
Sun Lakes and club-level events
Sun Lakes holiday parties, dinners and club events are run by the individual associations and clubs, not by one city calendar. I am not listing dates for those. Check the calendar or newsletter for the association that covers the address you are visiting or already own.
Sun Lakes is an age-restricted area, with occupancy rules set in each association's CC&Rs. The public city events in Mesa and Chandler above are open to everyone.
What I skipped on purpose
I left off East Valley events whose 2026 date I could not read on the organizer's own page. If you hear about a neighborhood parade or a club concert from a friend, enjoy it once you confirm it. For a wider list of seasonal events around the Valley, see my snowbird events calendar, and for the bigger picture on age-restricted communities, start at the Arizona 55+ living hub.
Common questions
Which East Valley holiday dates are confirmed for 2026?
On the official pages I checked: Merry Main Street in downtown Mesa kicks off with a tree lighting on Friday, November 27, 2026, and runs until January 9, 2027. The Mesa Temple Christmas Lights run nightly November 27 through December 30, 2026. Chandler's Tumbleweed Tree Lighting Ceremony is Saturday, December 5, 2026. Recheck each page before you go.
Is there a 2026 date for the Gilbert Water Tower Holiday Lighting?
Not yet. When I checked in early November 2026, the Town of Gilbert event page still showed the 2025 date. Watch the town's page for the 2026 announcement.
Are these events only for people in 55+ communities?
No. These are public city and organizer events in Mesa and Chandler. Anyone can go, and the age-restricted communities nearby have their own separate club and association calendars.
Where do I find Sun Lakes holiday parties and club events?
Sun Lakes holiday events are run by the individual associations and clubs, not by a city. Check the calendar or newsletter for the association that covers your address.
Can I tour homes on the same day as an event?
Yes. Call me at 602-483-4665, tell me which event you want to keep, and I will plan the showings earlier in the day.
If you are spending the holidays in the East Valley and want to look at homes while you are here, call Terry Day, DeLex Realty. I am glad to plan showings around the events you want to keep.
