Encanterra Homes with Golf Cart Garage

Encanterra homes with a golf cart garage are usually resales or new Shea plans with a third bay, a split garage or an optional garage extension that owners use for a cart. Shea's current Encanterra plan pages do not label any plan as having a dedicated cart garage, so measure the space on every home you consider.

Encanterra golf cart garages at a glance

  • Community: Encanterra, a Trilogy resort community by Shea Homes in Queen Creek (ZIP 85140), near the San Tan Mountains.
  • Age rules: Shea describes Encanterra as partial 55+, with select 55+ Trilogy neighborhoods and other homes open to all ages. Age restrictions are in the CC&Rs for each lot.
  • Cart space on new plans: Shea lists 1-car to 3-car garages by plan. The Create plan shows a 3-car garage and an optional 4-foot garage extension. No plan page I reviewed calls out a dedicated golf cart garage.
  • Club: The private Encanterra Country Club. All owners are social members, with an option to upgrade to a golf membership.
  • Clubhouses: La Casa and The Algarve, plus an 18-hole championship course.
  • Listings button: A keyword search of Encanterra listings that mention a golf cart, not a verified cart garage filter.

What the green button shows: a keyword search of active Encanterra listings whose remarks mention a golf cart. A seller may mention a cart because the garage holds one, because a cart conveys with the sale, or simply because the community has cart paths. It is not a verified feature filter, so confirm the space on a showing.

What a "cart garage" means at Encanterra

At Encanterra, cart storage usually comes in one of three forms: a third garage bay, a split garage with a separate single door, or a deeper garage created with an extension option. Shea's own Trilogy blog notes that buyers can use expanded garage space for golf car parking, and that is how many owners use the extra room. It is not the same as a plan drawn with a labeled cart bay.

Shea's current Encanterra lineup, as listed on sheahomes.com, includes the Amalfi, Francia, Italia and Espana collections. Garages range from a 1-car garage on the smallest Amalfi plan to 2-car and 3-car garages on the single-level plans. The Create plan (Italia) lists a 3-car garage and an optional 4-foot garage extension, and the Alora plan (Espana) is listed with a 2-to-3 car garage. Plans change, so match the model name on any listing to the live plan page and to the options the original buyer actually chose.

Resales are where most cart-ready garages show up. Owners may have added cabinets, a second refrigerator, a water softener or a workbench that steals cart length, and some have changed the garage after closing. Changes to a garage can need association architectural approval and a building permit, so ask whether any remodel was approved.

A practical point many buyers miss: Encanterra mixes 55+ Trilogy neighborhoods with all-ages homes inside one community. A cart garage question and an age-rule question are two separate checks. I confirm which CC&Rs run with the specific lot before we write an offer.

Club rules for personal carts

Encanterra Country Club is private. According to the club, all Encanterra owners are social members and may upgrade to a golf membership, memberships are right-to-use, and non-resident memberships are not currently being accepted. The public golf page does not publish rules on personal carts, cart registration, trail arrangements or course cart etiquette, so ask the golf shop for the current private cart policy before you assume your own cart can go on the course.

Inside the neighborhoods, cart parking, overnight storage and driveway rules come from the association's governing documents. If you plan to keep a cart outside even occasionally, read the parking rules in the resale disclosure package first.

Arizona rules in general terms

Arizona law defines a golf cart in A.R.S. 28-101 as a motor vehicle with at least three wheels on the ground, an unladen weight under 1,800 pounds, designed to be and operated at no more than 25 miles per hour, and designed to carry no more than four people including the driver. The same statute defines a neighborhood electric vehicle as an emission-free, electrically powered vehicle with at least four wheels that meets federal low-speed vehicle standards.

A.R.S. 28-966 limits neighborhood electric vehicles to 25 miles per hour and keeps them off roads posted above 35 miles per hour, though they may cross those roads at intersections. Whether a particular cart is legal on a particular public street depends on how it is built and equipped, how it is registered and insured, and any local rules. Our blog post on street-legal golf carts in Arizona walks through the basics.

Encanterra is within the Town of Queen Creek. The town approved the annexation in 2019, and the Arizona Court of Appeals affirmed the dismissal of the residents' challenge in March 2020. Even so, confirm the jurisdiction of any address and check town rules before driving a cart on public streets outside the community.

This is general information, not legal advice. Read the current statute text and talk to the club, the association and a qualified professional about your situation.

Why buyers want a cart garage here

  • Keep the car garage free for cars, storage and a workshop.
  • Charge the cart indoors, out of the summer sun.
  • Avoid driveway parking that association rules may limit.
  • Use the cart for trips to La Casa, The Algarve and the golf course within club and association rules.

Cart storage often pairs with other features buyers filter for. If a cart is one of several must-haves, also look at Encanterra golf course homes, Encanterra homes with a pool and Encanterra homes with a casita.

What to check before you buy

  1. Measure the bay length and width with the door closed, and leave room to walk around the cart.
  2. Measure the door opening height against your cart's roof and windshield.
  3. Look for water heaters, softeners, shelves or HVAC equipment that shorten the usable space.
  4. Check for an outlet near the cart and how the charger will be mounted.
  5. Match the model name to the Shea plan page and ask which garage options were built.
  6. Confirm whether the lot is in a 55+ Trilogy neighborhood or an all-ages area by reading its CC&Rs.
  7. Read association parking and storage rules, and ask the club about personal cart policy.
  8. Ask whether any garage changes were approved by the association and permitted.

Questions people ask

Do all Encanterra homes have a golf cart garage?
No. Garage size depends on the plan, the options the first owner chose and any later changes. Shea lists garages from 1-car to 3-car across its current plans, and none of the plan pages I reviewed is labeled as having a dedicated cart garage.

Does the listings button show only homes with a measured cart garage?
No. It is a keyword search of Encanterra listings that mention a golf cart. Some of those homes will have cart space and some will not. Confirm on a showing.

Is every Encanterra neighborhood age-restricted?
No. Shea describes Encanterra as partial 55+, with select 55+ Trilogy neighborhoods and homes open to all ages. The CC&Rs for the specific lot control.

Can I use my own cart on the Encanterra golf course?
The club's public pages do not publish a personal cart policy. Ask the golf shop for the current rules and any membership requirements before you buy a cart for the course.

Is Encanterra in Queen Creek?
Yes. The Town of Queen Creek annexed Encanterra in 2019, and the court challenge to that annexation failed on appeal in 2020. Still confirm the jurisdiction of any address you are considering.
