How joining a chartered club usually works

Sun City, Sun City West and Sun City Grand each run their own recreation association, and clubs in each one follow that association's rules. A card for one community does not get you into another community's club. The details differ by club, but the pattern I see on the club sites is similar:

  1. Hold the right recreation card for the community where you own or live. The Camera Guild of Sun City, for example, says membership is open only to RCSC cardholders, and Computers West asks members to show a current Recreation Center Activity card.
  2. Find the club on the club's own site or the association's club list.
  3. Complete the club's application or registration and pay club dues the way the club asks.
  4. Watch for extra steps. Computers West lists a new member orientation and asks each member to serve as a volunteer monitor at least once a year.
  5. Check the club calendar, since many clubs keep shorter summer hours.

Sun City West's club site describes nearly 100 chartered clubs that have priority use of Association facilities and follow the Association's Rules, Regulations and Procedures. Sun City Grand says each of its chartered clubs has at least 100 members.

Sun City (RCSC)

Computer Club of Sun City

The Computer Club of Sun City is on the second floor of Fairway Recreation Center, Room 219, at 10600 Peoria Avenue. The club says its classes and facility use are available to club members. Posted hours from September through April are Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon, with shorter hours May through August. New members register through the club's website. The club phone listed on its site is 623-933-8953.

Camera Guild of Sun City

The Camera Guild of Sun City calls itself an RCSC member club. It meets in Grand Center, 10415 W. Grand Avenue, Room 132. To join, the Guild asks you to download the application, then bring it and your RCSC photo ID card to the club to sign up. The club room is open weekday mornings from October to April and Tuesday to Thursday mornings from May to September, with afternoons set aside for classes and projects.

Sun City West (RCSCW)

Computers West

Computers West is at Palm Ridge Recreation Center on West Deer Valley Drive, with office hours Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Membership is for Sun City West residents with a current Recreation Center Activity card. The site lists class registration, technology support and repair, and special interest groups for Windows PCs, Apple, Linux, artificial intelligence, flight simulator, genealogy and streaming. The club's next general meeting is posted for November 10, 2026, at Palm Ridge Summit A. Its membership year runs January 1 through December 31.

Photography West

Photography West, the camera club of Sun City West, is based at Beardsley Recreation Center, with weekly Friday programs in the Stardust Theater at Kuentz Recreation Center. The club lists a computer lab with Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and Elements, a still life and portrait studio, and equipment to digitize home movies, slides, VHS tapes and audio. It also runs winter workshops and a ten-week mentee program. Winter lab hours, mid-September to mid-May, are Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sun City Grand

Sun City Grand in Surprise has its own association, separate from RCSC and RCSCW. Its Clubs & Groups page lists a Tech Club and a Photo Club among its resident-led clubs, but it does not post join steps for each one. Call The Grand at 623-546-7500, the number on its site, to reach the club contacts. For homes in the community, see my Sun City Grand homes for sale page.

Buying with the clubs in mind

What I tell clients: name the club first, then pick the recreation system. A buyer who wants weekly tech help in Sun City West is shopping a different card than a buyer who wants the Camera Guild in Sun City. Visit during the club's posted hours, ask a volunteer how classes fill up in winter, and then we can focus on homes that make the trip to that rec center easy.

Who it fits, by home features: a single-level home with a den or office nook for a desk and editing monitor. Who it does not fit: a buyer who needs a commercial studio on the lot. For more on each community, see moving to Sun City, moving to Sun City West and the Arizona 55+ living hub. These are age-restricted communities, with the rules in the CC&Rs.
