Goodyear's library is the Georgia T. Lord Library, a Maricopa County Library District location, while Buckeye and Avondale each run their own city libraries. County residents can get a free district card with photo ID showing a current address, and homebound county residents can ask about the district's free Books By Mail service.
This is the Southwest Valley companion to my Peoria, Surprise and Glendale libraries guide. Below are the branches, how cards work in each system, home delivery options, and the adult programs I found on each library's own calendar. Hours and schedules change, so check the official pages before you go.

Goodyear: Georgia T. Lord Library
Goodyear's public library is the Georgia T. Lord Library at 1900 N. Civic Square, in the city's civic center area. It is listed as one of the Maricopa County Library District's locations, and the district's branch page gives the phone as 602-652-3000. The City of Goodyear partners on the building and on its InnovationHub, and the city has also been working on a library master plan for future service.
Branch features listed by MCLD include computers and Wi-Fi, printing, study rooms, room reservations, a drive-up book drop, a self-service cafe, telescopes to borrow and a Friends of the Library bookstore.
Adult and 55+ programs I confirmed on the MCLD events calendar:
- Senior Connections: a social hour for adults 55 and over with card games, puzzles, music and conversation, held the first three Mondays of the month in the afternoon. The calendar shows sessions on November 9 and 16 and December 7 and 14, 2026.
- Adult Fiction Book Club: meets the fourth Monday of each month, with an early afternoon and a late afternoon session.
- Master Gardener Presents: a recurring series of gardening talks in the Community Room.
- InnovationHub: a partnership of MCLD, the City of Goodyear and ASU offering free ASU Startup School, business workshops and one-on-one mentoring, a fit for retirees starting a small business or side project.
Library cards for new residents
MCLD (Goodyear). Adults who live, own a business or own property in Maricopa County can get a free MCLD card. MCLD asks for photo ID showing your current address, or photo ID plus a separate proof of residency. You can start the application online, visit a branch, or book a virtual appointment.
Buckeye. Buckeye library cards are free. Bring a valid Arizona driver's license or picture ID showing your current address, or an ID plus a piece of mail received at your current Arizona address. You can preregister online to speed things up, then finish at the desk with your ID.
Avondale. Maricopa County residents can get a free Avondale card with photo ID and a separate proof of address, such as a utility bill, postmarked mail or car registration. Avondale also issues cards to people outside the county. Cards for Avondale residents renew every three years.
Each system has its own card. If you split your week between Goodyear, Buckeye and Avondale, ask each desk how its card works with the others before you assume one card covers all three. I do not list fees or non-resident charges here; read the current policy on each library's site.
Buckeye Public Library
Buckeye's library calendar lists two buildings:
- Downtown Library: 310 N. 6th St., Buckeye
- Coyote Branch: 21699 W. Yuma Rd., Suite 116, Buckeye
The city's library pages list a main phone of 623-349-6300, free Wi-Fi, public computers, books and DVDs, a library app, online classes and learning, e-book access, mobile printing, study room reservations and a Friends bookstore. A Culture Pass program is also listed.
Bookmobile. Buckeye runs a bookmobile with its own calendar. It serves the Verrado, Festival and Tartesso communities. A late September 2026 listing showed the Tartesso stop temporarily out of service, with library holds available for pickup inside the Fire Station 705 community room instead. Check the Bookmobile Calendar for the current stops.
Buckeye's adult events change through the year. The library's events calendar is the place to look for current book groups and classes.
Avondale Public Library
Avondale has two city libraries, both reachable at 623-333-BOOK:
- Avondale Civic Center Library: 11350 W. Civic Center Dr., Avondale
- Sam Garcia Western Avenue Library: 495 E. Western Ave., Avondale
Your Avondale card gives home access to the catalog and research databases. Avondale's adult programs page has listed an adult book discussion, Needle and Thread, crochet and craft groups, and computer classes, and the events calendar has shown ESOL classes for ages 16 and up with registration. Schedules rotate, so read the current calendar before planning around a class.
Homebound and home delivery options
MCLD Books By Mail. The Maricopa County Library District mails large-print books to homebound Maricopa County residents who cannot otherwise get to library materials. Books go out through the U.S. Postal Service at no charge and check out for three weeks. To sign up, call 602-652-3070 or use the online form; the district says it responds within two business days. Because the service is open to homebound county residents, it is worth asking about whether you live in Goodyear, Buckeye or Avondale.
Buckeye. The bookmobile brings library service to Verrado, Festival and Tartesso when it is running. I did not find a separate homebound delivery program posted by the city, so call the library to ask.
Avondale. Avondale's library site has outreach and group visit request pages. I did not find a homebound delivery service posted, so call 623-333-BOOK and ask what is available for your address.
Pairing libraries with your home search
When buyers compare Goodyear, Buckeye and nearby 55+ communities, library access sits on the list next to recreation centers, senior fitness classes, volunteer opportunities and hospitals near Goodyear and Buckeye. In age-restricted (55+) communities, occupancy rules are set in the CC&Rs; the library has nothing to do with those rules. For an East Valley comparison, see Mesa, Chandler and Gilbert libraries for seniors, and for the bigger picture, Arizona 55+ living.
