Senior services in Pinal County start with the Pinal-Gila Council for Senior Citizens, the Area Agency on Aging for Pinal and Gila counties, which runs its programs under the name Central Arizona Aging. On top of that, Florence, Casa Grande and the City of Maricopa each have their own senior center, and Apache Junction has a center that serves the Gold Canyon side.

The regional starting point: Central Arizona Aging

The Arizona Department of Economic Security lists the Pinal-Gila Council for Senior Citizens in Casa Grande as the Area Agency on Aging for Region V, which covers Pinal and Gila counties. Its public website uses the name Central Arizona Aging and describes itself as a nonprofit foundation of the Pinal-Gila Council. Older flyers may use either name. The address and phone numbers are the same.

The services Central Arizona Aging lists include home-delivered meals, senior centers with transportation, caregiver support (including respite and support groups), legal services, insurance and benefits help, home repair and housing services, in-home care, an ombudsman program, prescription discounts and a resource guide. Its Central Intake, Screening and Referral line is 520-836-2758 or 800-293-9393, and the agency email is info@pgcsc.org.

People moving from Maricopa County are sometimes surprised by how this works. Pinal County has no single city recreation card. Meals, rides and benefits help often go through the regional agency plus whichever local center serves your address, so call intake first and ask which center that is.

Senior centers in Florence, Casa Grande and Maricopa

Florence: Dorothy Nolan Senior Center. The Town of Florence runs this center at 330 N. Pinal Street. It is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center serves congregate meals for people 60 and older and their spouses, and meal reservations are due by Tuesday at 11 a.m. for the following week. Activities include cards, pool, shuffleboard, crafts, Thursday bingo and monthly grocery trips to Coolidge. Its vans bring people to the center for meals and activities in the morning by advance booking. The town says plainly that the vans do not do medical transport.

Casa Grande: Dorothy Powell Senior Center. The City of Casa Grande runs this center at 405 East Sixth Street. The city says it is for Casa Grande residents age 50 or older. It is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and serves weekday congregate lunches (the city posts the menu each month). The city also posts recreational, cultural and educational programs on an activities calendar. CG LINK, the city's curb-to-curb service with accessible vehicles, serves the center Monday through Saturday. You can book CG LINK at 520-509-6900, online or in its rider app. If you are shopping for a home here, see the Casa Grande 55+ communities guide.

City of Maricopa: Maricopa Community Center. The city calls this center a welcoming space for Maricopa's senior and veteran community. It is at 41614 W. Smith Enke Road, Suite 100, and is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The city posts a monthly calendar of activities. Central Arizona Aging also lists this center among its senior centers. The city's page does not describe a meal program, so call 520-233-2400 (option 3) and ask what is running this season.

For buyers comparing the 55+ communities near these centers, Terry has guides to Anthem at Merrill Ranch in Florence and Province in Maricopa. A community's own clubhouse and its age rules (set out in its CC&Rs) have nothing to do with senior-center eligibility. The two are separate.

San Tan Valley and Gold Canyon: how to find help

San Tan Valley and Gold Canyon do not have a center of their own on Central Arizona Aging's senior-center list. Residents there should start with the agency's intake line. Ask which listed center serves your address and whether that center's rides reach you.

On the Gold Canyon side, the closest listed center is the Apache Junction Active Adult Center at 1035 N. Idaho Road, 480-474-5260. Central Arizona Aging's transportation page says Apache Junction offers cab or rideshare reimbursement through that number. San Tan Valley residents should ask intake whether Florence, Apache Junction or another center is the right fit. Confirm before you plan on a meal or class across the county.

Meals, transportation and help lines

Meals at a center. Central Arizona Aging says on-site meals at its senior centers are for people 60 and older. A spouse of any age who comes with them is also eligible, and so are some family members with disabilities and meal-program volunteers. Call the nearest center to reserve.

Home-delivered meals. The agency lists home-delivered meals for eligible homebound people age 60 and older, and for some caregivers and some adults with disabilities. Call intake (520-836-2758 or 800-293-9393) to be screened. Routes and availability vary by area.

Transportation. Central Arizona Aging says rides to and from senior centers come first for its programs. Rides to medical appointments, stores and other places may also be offered when there is room. Riders must be at least 60. Most centers in Pinal and Gila counties offer senior-center rides. The City of Maricopa also runs its own public transit, the MET (Maricopa Express Transit). It has a free in-city circulator and app-booked microtransit, and every vehicle is wheelchair accessible. Book through the MET app or the reservation number on the city's transit page.

Help lines and benefits. Use the Central Arizona Aging intake line for help with benefits and insurance, caregiver support, legal services and the ombudsman program.

This page does not quote meal donations, ride fares or membership costs because they change and vary by center. Check the official page or call. This is general information, not medical or legal advice.

  2. Call the center closest to the home you are considering: Florence, Casa Grande, Maricopa or Apache Junction.
  3. Ask about meal reservations, ride booking and whether visitors can attend before you sign up.
  4. If you are buying in a 55+ community, keep its clubhouse membership and senior-center sign-up as two separate items.
  5. Talk with your own doctor before starting a new fitness or meal program.
